Sited near the Potomac Water Gap and the Appalachian Trail as it crosses the Shenandoah, this design study was centered on creating a place that “belongs” to the larger context, natural, cultural and historic, with a modernity suited to the client’s organic leanings.  To be built as a future permanent, self-sustaining homestead, this weekend retreat extends the gentle land form and texture while expressing its connectedness with the nearby Blue Ridge.
