Lakeview House
Richmond, Virginia

Carefully fit to a narrow infill lot at the edge of the City’s most popular public park, this home overlooks a lake within a neighborhood characterized by eclectic and diverse architecture and culture. Residing along a busy thoroughfare, the living spaces are positioned 1 story above the street while cantilevering by an equal dimension, intensifying one’s experience and sense of connection to the public greenspace.  The material palette comprises corrugated metal cladding, stucco, cypress and a roman blue-black brick that expresses an intentional departure from the all-too-pervasive red brick of the region, as well as the immediate vicinity; indeed, though subtle, the building's proportioning system also harmonizes with the scale and mass of the two adjacent older homes.  Even more subtle is the fact of a solar energy harvest through roof-top PV, which provides a substantial portion of the home’s energy demand.
